If you missed the big news, Burger King announced this past week that they were kickstarting a pilot program next year that will allow customers the option to get their food in reusable boxes. For a business that is built around single-use packaging, this is HUGE news! But is "sustainable fast food" an oxymoron?

It's incredible to see the fast food industry making these kinds of huge moves. If they can be sustainable, it seems like any business can. And while they are just reducing the amount of single-use containers - rather than eliminating them for good, I think it's a crucial first step to start getting customers use to the new behaviors in fast-food consumption that will need to follow.

I still have soo many questions though...

  • Are people going to be reckless and throw out the reusable containers too?

  • How long will it be before other fast-food companies follow in Burger King's footsteps?

  • When are we going to see reusable packaging from fast food restaurants as the norm? (Is this even possible from a social standpoint?)

  • How long will it take for customers to adjust their behaviors to be willing to use reusable packaging (AKA giving up a layer of their convenience)?

What do you think about this news and where we will be seeing the fast-food industry go over the next few years?
